Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Parish Marriage Record, Before 1916

If the marriage license suggests a Catholic ceremony, I can usually find the parish marriage register entry if you provide me with the marriage date and name of the priest and/or parish. These records usually give the names of witnesses and occasionally (mostly true of the Polish parishes) they will include parent names and even birth places.

On the other hand, I've looked up thousands of these death certificates over the last few years and sometimes that experience lets me work a bit of magic. These are "actual death certificates." I'm able to print them from microfilm at the local Family History Center and that's why I can offer digital images for less than the county's price. If you're looking for someone with a common name and you don't have an exact death date, it's hard know which index entry is correct. I will check a reasonable number of certificates and do my best to find a match based on information you give me—birth date, place, parents, spouse, cemetery, etc. (5 = no problem; 10 = might take me a few extra days to get back to you; 20 = please narrow it down with some online obituary searching or a call to a cemetery but if you can't, let me know and we'll work something out)

If you can't find a death certificate before 1904 on FamilySearch's Record Search, check the Cook County Coroner's Inquest Index. If the name is there, I can usually get a copy of the death certificate for you. (I say "usually" because some of the coroner's death certificates are so far out of order on some of the reels that it's next to impossible to find them.)

Lurie Index: 1937 Voter Registration for Chicago

This is a card file index on microfilm and it's arranged by surname. Each card appears to have the name of the head-of-household, an address, and then names of other individuals of the same surname at that address.
